Akutan Booking

Maritime Helicopters provides flight services between Akutan’s land-based airport on Akun Island to the village of Akutan.  Access to the airport on Akun is provided by Grant Aviation out of Unalaska-Dutch Harbor, Alaska.

Notice to our valued customers: Starting January 1, 2025, please note there will be a slight price increase in seat fares for services between Akutan and Akun due to increased operation and fuel costs. One-way fares will be $125 per ticket.  Thank you for your loyalty and support.

How do I get to Akutan?

For regularly scheduled air service to Akutan you will need to book two separate flights.

Grant Aviation provides service between Dutch Harbor and Akutan Airport, located on Akun Island six miles away from Akutan Island.

Ticket Policies

Reservations are held by credit card and processed when passenger checks-in for flight.  Unused reservations and purchased tickets are valid for 90 days from date of booking. Changes are allowed free of charge. No refunds will be issued after 90 days from date of purchase. Tickets cannot be transferred between passengers.

Weather and Flight Delays

Please contact the Akutan or Homer office ticket agents for updates on weather or mechanical delays.

If your flight is canceled, be sure to reschedule by contacting the Akutan or main office ticket agent. Contact information can be found in your confirmation email.

Baggage Information

Each ticketed passenger is allowed 2 checked bags, up to 50 pounds each, free of charge.

  • Additional bags are $50 each.
  • Overweight bags 50-100 pounds are $50 each.
  • Bags which are both excess and overweight (50-100 pounds) are $50 each.
  • Baggage greater than 100 pounds is considered cargo.  Please see “Shipping and Receiving Cargo” section below.

It is possible your baggage may not travel on the same flight with you due to weight and space operational limitations.  When this occurs, it will be transported on subsequent flights.

*If the ticketed passenger’s excess baggage requires a Grant chartered flight, the luggage/gear will be charged our current charter rate.

Children under 2 years old

Children under the age of 2 can fly free of charge in companion adult’s lap.

Village Customer Service Agent

Firearms and Ammunition

  • Firearms (including flare guns) and ammunition must be declared to the pilot prior to travel or shipping as cargo. 
  • Firearms must be unloaded and carried in a locked, hard-sided container.
  • They may be included in checked baggage if they are declared, unloaded and properly packaged.
  • Ammunition must be securely packed in the original manufacturer’s package or in a container designed for ammunition and of sufficient strength to protect it from accidental crushing or discharge.  The projectile must be no larger than 11/16″ in diameter, the size of a dime.

Hazardous Material

If transporting hazardous material, a Shipper’s Declaration for Dangerous Goods form must be completed and the pilot contacted at 907-891-5850 prior to boarding or shipping the item(s).  For more detailed information on regulations, please visit https://www.faa.gov/hazmat/packsafe.

Shipping and Receiving Cargo

Notify our Akutan customer service agent if you are expecting incoming or shipping outgoing cargo.

Payment is expected at time of drop-off for outgoing (Akutan to Akun) and upon receipt for incoming (Akun to Akutan) cargo. Please note that unpaid cargo will be held until payment is received and agents can accept payment by credit card only. If you need further assistance with arrangements, please call our main reservations office.

Current cargo rate: $0.60/pound
Minimum charge: $6.00

Charters and Oversized Cargo

Charters should be arranged with Maritime Helicopters directly and require 12-hour advanced notice.  Subject to housing and per diem charges if overnight stay is required.  Charters are billed at 1/10th of an hour plus fuel costs.

Charters are flights which require transportation of customers or freight to destination(s) outside of the normal scheduled Service Route (Akutan-Akun Airport).
